What is an Engine Air Filter?
Engine air filters are essential for protecting delicate and hard-working engine parts from dust. These tiny particles interact with oxygen to create silica, which becomes abrasive when it enters your equipment's engine.
It's important to note the difference between cabin and engine air filters. Cat cab air filters keep the heating and cooling system running well and affect the air quality in the cab. They do not affect your machine's engine performance.
What does it do for your machine?
Cat machinery contains a two-stage filtration system. The outer or main filter is the first line of defense and tends to be dirtier than the inner or safety filter.
Both engine air filters have one common goal - to stop dust and debris from entering the motor and its components. Blocking these particles reduces wear on critical components.
Types of Engine Air Filters
Cat primary filters come in two general types – standard efficiency and premium efficiency. Secondary filters are standard efficiency only.
Standard efficiency filters are ideal for general and light-duty machinery. They consistently provide engine protection and keep field equipment running at its best.
Consider premium efficiency filters for more demanding applications or when a higher degree of filtration is required.
What Happens If You Don’t Take Care of Your Children
When your engine air filter becomes dirty or clogged, it can adversely affect the power of your engine. Your machine may not accelerate properly or may run slowly. In addition, you may experience:
- Misfires.
- Strange noises.
- Excessive or black exhaust.
- Premature engine wear.
- Increased fuel consumption.
Because your engine air filter is critical to performance, plan to monitor it regularly. We recommend changing the filter after 500 hours of operation or less, depending on the operating environment.
